Piece of Me #19: The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake

I've just bought this new book called 'The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake'. I've not read anything in a long long time (ok, it's been years) but I can't wait to get started on this one. It's the story of a girl who has the gift to taste her mother's emotions through the food she makes.

What an awesome gift!

It got me thinking...

Flapjacks and food colouring remind me of mischief with an old friend. Thai Green Curry stirs up Newcastle nostalgia. Nachos are reminiscent of friendship and frolics and blueberry muffins of things loved and lost.

And roast dinners are of course synonomous with family, comfort and warmth.

As for the book, I'll let you know how it goes...

Piece of Me# 18: Birds of a Feather

I came across this at work yesterday and thought it was insane. It's by London make-up artist Mira Parma...

Piece of Me #17: Wishing I Was Somewhere Else...

New York New York...

Intense. Smart. Bridges. Cabs. Glamorous. Curious. Ruthless. Sophisticated. Tough. Charming. Cosmopolitan. Glittering. Vitality. Crazy. Prosperity. Enterprise. Busy. Magical. Electric.

The Beatles - All You Need is Love (HQ)

Piece of Me #16: All you need is love?

February 14th...
A day anticipated by couples , dreaded by singletons.
A busy day for florists and postmen, a day of quiet contemplation for lonely minds.

Yes, all you need is love. But good friends and red wine help too.

Piece of Me #15: This Month I Love....

Jil Sander has really come up trumps with brights this season!!
This.outfit.is.to.die.for. The shocking pink maxi is divine.
Meanwhile, my picks from the floral trend include these brill Office loafers, and this fierce Alexander McQueen ring!
Also on my agenda... a fishtail plait. (Attempts so far have been futile...)

Piece of Me #14: Life can't always be a walk in the park...

Life isn't a walk in the park - however much we want it to be.

Whether it's being separated from your best friends, losing somone close, or just another bad day - sometimes we wonder why we can't always be feeling on top of the world.

Here's some inspiration if you're feeling blue... taken from "100 Things To Do (The Sad Trombone List)"

Eat the best chocolate you can get your hands on.
Turn up your favourite song and dance in your pyjamas.
Have a romance in your head.
Buy a harmonica and annoy the hell out of everyone as you learn how to play it.
Hula hoop.
Be graceless.
Sing into your friend's answermachine.
Buy a pair of ridiculous slippers.
And my personal favourite... Wear a fake moustache all day.

Hold your head high - there's always light at the end of the tunnel...
